Governance Structure
The Hon’ble President of India is the President of the Society. There is a Managing Body constituted for governance and supervision of the functions of the Society, comprising of 12 members elected by the States and Union Territory branches through an electoral college formed with the representatives of the branches for 2 years and 6 members nominated by the Hon’ble President of India for such term as he may deem fit. The Chairperson of the Managing Body is also nominated by the Hon’ble President for such term as he may deem fit. As per past practice, the Hon’ble President has been nominating the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India as the Chairperson of the National Managing Body of the Indian Red Cross Society. The Vice-Chairperson of the Managing Body is elected from amongst the members of the Managing Body. The National Headquarters of the Society is at New Delhi.

IRCS STATE/UT Branches
The State/Union Territory branches broadly follow a similar governance structure as that of the national level, but the Chairperson is elected by the respective Managing Committee. The Hon’ble Governor of the State or the Lieutenant Governor/Administrator of the Union Territories, as the case may be, is the President of the respective State/Union Territory Red Cross branch. Similarly, at the District branch level, the District Collector/Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate as the case may be, is the President of the District branch. The branches are governed by the Indian Red Cross Society Branch Committees Rules, 2017
