A junior Red Crosser, Hiral was like any other boy of his community in Navasari district of Gujarat, attending classes at school and enjoying the little thrills of childhood, until the evening of January 7th, 2014.

While returning back home from school, and passing the bridge on Purna river, he saw many people gathered and anxious. He found that a 4 month hapless infant had fallen into the river from his mothers’ lap and was close to drowning.Without sparing a moment on thought, Hiral jumped into the gushing waters to save the baby. |
Not only did he bring him out, but also gave him first aid, and saved his life. Hiral had received this First Aid training through the Red Cross First Aid training programme given as part of the Junior and Youth Red Cross Curriculum at the community level.

Hiral was awarded by the Deputy Speaker State Assembly, Gujarat as well as the IRCS Secretary General. Words fall short to applaud this young brave heart. It is young torch bearers like him who keep the humanitarian spirit of Red Cross alive and kindle in others a need to follow his example of selfless and un-daunting service. |
Real heroes don’t have superpowers..instead they are one from amongst us. Hiral is one such hero.
What sets them apart is their selfless spirit and humanitarian action in helping people without any greed or expectation. The Indian Red Cross salutes Hiral’s bravery.
