Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP)

With an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India in November, 2008. Under the scheme, dedicated outlets known as Janaushadhi Kendras are opened to provide generic medicines at affordable prices. As on 11.06.2025 more than 16000 Janaushadhi Kendras are functional across the country. Product basket of PMBJP comprises 2047 drugs and 300 surgical items. The Scheme is implemented by a society registered under the Societies Registration Act, viz., Pharma & Medical Bureau of India (PMBI) [erstwhile Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI)].
1. To make available quality medicines consumables and surgical items at affordable prices for all and reduce out of pocket expenditure of consumers/patients.
2. To popularize generic medicines among the masses and dispel the prevalent notion that low priced generic medicines are of inferior quality or are less effective.
3. To ensure easy availability of the menstrual health services to all women across India.
4. To generate employment by engaging individual entrepreneurs in the opening of Jan Aushadhi Kendra.

Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

The Red Cross is a key partner in the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a government-led initiative to end tuberculosis (TB) in India. Its primary role is to provide nutritional support to TB patients through its various branches, by distributing food kits to registered beneficiaries, known as Ni-kshay Mitras. The Red Cross also supports the program by increasing awareness, reducing the stigma associated with TB, and connecting community members and corporations to the cause.
Red Cross's involvement in the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan:
• Nutritional support: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) provides nutritional support to TB patients by distributing food kits or baskets.
• Community involvement: The Red Cross actively encourages community participation by engaging individuals, corporations to support the initiative.
• Campaign and Distribution drive: The IRCS-J&K and its District Branches have been providing nutritional support among the TB patients and conducting campaign drives to fund the distribution of nutritional kits.
• Partnership with government: The Red Cross partners with District Administrations and national health departments to identify patients and deliver the kits.
• Awareness and stigma reduction: The Red Cross helps increase public awareness about TB and works to reduce the stigma that often surrounds the disease.
