Red Cross Helping Amarnath Yatra Pilgrims
18.07.2017

Indian Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu & Kashmir State branch has deployed ambulances, volunteers and doctors to provide first-aid and other services for those undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra. One standby ambulance is stationed at Yatri Niwas Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. A number of pilgrims halt here and it is on one of the important routes of the pilgrims in the city of Jammu. A First Aid Centre is also opened at Sangam Resorts, near Railway Station, Jammu, to facilitate the Amarnath Yatries. Here around 30 persons are provided emergency medical aid regularly.

Similarly the Srinagar division has also made arrangements for the pilgrims for comfortable passage to the Amarnath caves.

The State Red Cross Secretary, Mr M S Rather, has informed that all the Red Cross volunteers and ambulances are always available to the pilgrims and to the local administration and they were handy at the time of the terrorist attack in the valley on one of the buses carrying them.

The trek to Amarnath caves in Jammu & Kashmir is possible only during the months of summer for the believers and followers of Lord Shiva. People from all over the country throng to the caves where a natural ice shiva linga is found even in the summer season. Due to prevailing conditions in the state security and medical relief is arranged by the government and other relief agencies.
